This large conifer woodland has many features of heritage scattered thoughout, including Polmaddy settlement, a classic example of an early Galloway Village before the improvements and clearances of the 1700s and 1800s
The Polmaddy burn lazily snakes its way through the woodland which opens up to reveal stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Off the A713 between New Galloway and Dalmellington.

Polmaddy is in Galloway Forest Park. St John's Town of Dalry and Carsphairn are the nearest towns or villages.

From Newton Stewart: Take the A712 signposted New Galloway. From New Galloway take the A713 signposted Ayr, Carsphairn. Follow the road to the village of Polmaddy, take the first left opposite the village (there will be a Forest Commission sign) then follow the forest road until you reach the carpark.
