Cairnsmore of Fleet, at 711 metres, is the highest of the so called 'Solway Hills' and is home to the most extensive area of open moorland in the whole of Galloway.
Being one of the nine biospheres in the UK, Cairnsmore of Fleet is home to many species of plants, animals and birds. Here, it is possible, to watch upland raptors such as the Golden Eagle, Merlin and Peregrine Falcon, along with many others.
It's commanding location overlooking the Cree Estuary ensures the walker can enjoy the magnificence of Wigtown Bay and the Machars in the near vicinity. The Lake District, North Wales and the Isle of Man, to name a few other spectacular views, can also found present in the distance.
