Situated in a stunning rural location close to Carrick beach and a short drive to Gatehouse of Fleet (local shops and pubs), Castle Douglas (the 'Food Town' )and Kircudbright (the 'Artist Town'). Doonwood sits at the end of a drive in quiet open grounds of around 6 acres, and is surrounded by woodland with no visible neighbours. Wildlife, including deer, hares and a range of birds abound in the area and have been regularly sighted from the cottage.
The house has been recently renovated without detracting from its 'cottage' feel. Downstairs has a sunny lounge with open fire, a large kitchen diner and utility/ boot room. Upstairs are two delightful bedrooms - a kingsize and a twin room - the bathroom with both a shower and bath, and a separate toilet. Outside there is plenty of parking, along with a wooden unfurnished garden room which can be used for children's play when wet, cycle storage etc.
The Solway coast is within walking distance with the superb Carrick beaches and foreshore together with viewpoints and ancient ruins. The local area also has a good range of activities including golf, horse riding and visitor centres, plus low light pollution for budding astronomers. Cyclists are well catered for- cycle route 7 goes past the front gate. There is a great range of dog walking, from access to the adjacent woods, to the forest paths in local managed estates and shoreline rambles.
